Alcohol-Induced Hypoglycaemia (2) Fig. 20.26 shows the occurrence of symptomatic hypoglycaemia in an otherwise healthy thirty-three-year-old woman. On two separate occasions she ingested a snack that provided 40g alcohol (as lager), 40g carbohydrate, and 20g protein. On each occasion, she experienced symptomatic reactive hypoglycaemia, which was relieved by the ingestion of food. Treatment of uncomplicated rebound hypoglycaemia is mainly by avoidance of situations in which it is likely to arise, and by eschewing provocative stimulation.
